Look here to find out, where I am in the world today, what I'm up to, and what's on my mind. Whatever is only relevant to Danes will be in Danish. Other stuff I'll post in English.

Brill Building Pop

I was at a music bare this past Friday in London called "333|Mother Bar", because there's a club downstairs called "Mother". Anyway, this was a really cool place since it dared to play a very narrow selection of music - a very specific musical genre; namely "Brill Building Pop" (or that is what I am guessing it is) Read more at allmusic. I don't know if that was the theme just that one night, 'cause from their website it looks as if thye play other sorts of music too.

With friends from around the globe, I had a ball! Great stuff. We were two Greeks, three Norwegian, one German, one Libanese, one Italian, one Scottish and one Dane (your's truly).

The next evening we went to a Turkish restaurent, where the waiter was such a laugh and the food was very nice. Afterwards we continued to a cool place called "Bedroom Bar" also in the Shoreditch area, like "333|Mother Bar". This was a really cool place because not only did the DJ play Soul, Classic, Disco, Funk and House, which are kinda my favorite kinds of music, there was also a saxophone player who improvised live over the tracks the DJ played! Smashing!!! It gave the place such a super ambiance, and I really enjoyed it and danced with great pleasure. Here's the address for the place. I haven't been able to find their website...

I highly recommend both places. I'd go out there any time - well provided my best buddies accompanies me!

Drinks abound in Cheshire

Right now I am in Liverpool, writing from the Library. I took this photo yesterday that you really should see!

My friend John and I took a trip to Chester, which is about 40 minutes away from Liverpool by train. Chester dates way back, and even has roman remains to offer, if you are into that kind of thing. It is very much "Old England" with many many Tudor Style houses and a very nice atmosphere. We had a nice day there and made it our mission to try some of the local beer, before we headed back to Liverpool.

At "Dutton's" we had a glass of J.W. Lee's "Plumb Pudding"; a smooth christmassy drink. Nice, but nothing spectacular! But that beer is from Manchester, so it wasn't really local, but fortunately I spotted a very nice pub just before we had to give up, because we were actually almost back at the railway station to go back. "The Old Harker's Arms"is right by the Chester canal, and has great selection of beers and nice food.

We opted for the beer though, and this was where we found "Weedwoods Bitter" - the local brew. That was nice and our mission had been accompliced :-)

Later that night, we went to a spectacular pub in Liverpool called "The Philharmonic", where I took this super photo of John with a cigar in one hand and a double MACALLAN in the other. What a gentleman's moment!

We had a great day (and my time at the library is running out). I hope to tell more soon.

Working hard... working out... working well !

Though I am feeling a bit tired, I am feeling well.

Work is good, home is home and time is scarce - but I still find time to relax.

Searching...

Why is it that in a world where everything can be found using Google and mistakes can be undone by a "Ctrl+Z" there seems to be no content real available that truly puts meaning into our lives?

I spend hours and hours on the web everyday, and what I am foremost in search of is CONTACT. The Internet is to me my foremost means of social interaction with my friends - and in the long run that is quite a challenge for any friendship. It is kind of scary and strange, given the fact that the web offers no real presence between people.

Since 1996 I have been moving around Europe about a dozen times, and though I am not hesitant about seeing myself as a bit of a cosmopolitan, I am paying a price for my constant quest of becoming as international as possible. The price is rootlessness. Sure I have family roots in Aarhus, Denmark where I was born, but for the past 10 years, I have not had a base of friends that I have been growing. Now for the many-ith time I am in a situation, where I have to build a social network from scratch and find a balance and structure in my everyday life. And it is quite challenge.

The foremost reoccurring thing in my life is the Internet. I work with is everyday as eMarketing Consultant with an esteemed international company, and the first thing I do, when I get back from work is logging on the web: to check my e-mails, to log onto Skype and MSN Messenger, because that is how I reach my friends. They are scattered all over Denmark, and all over the globe: Greece, the UK, Spain, Canada, Taiwan and so on…

Perhaps the question I posed at the beginning of this blog holds its own answer. Perhaps whatever brings true meaning to our lives cannot be found in search engines, and perhaps it is good that real life does not come with a “Ctrl+Z” option, so that we learn from our mistakes?

Anyway, I still have a lot to learn – and I have scared myself once or twice by thinking out loud: “I messed up. Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Z…” searching for the buttons, but there was nothing there. I was not in front off my computer.

Now working for Bang & Olufsen

I finally found the right job! On the 1st of August I started in the position as eMarketing Manager for Bang & Olufsen - you know: Music systems, TVs and telephones - all with amazing design. B&O's HQ is in Struer in the NW of Denmark, which is why you find photos from my new flat in Struer below.

The job is great! Anyway, that is my impression so far, though I've only been there 13 working days. Responsability is increasing, I am getting hands-on work to do and I am learning a tremendous amount of stuff about this uniquely interesting international brand icon.

My responsability is, as my title indicates, to manage the online marketing communications of Bang & Olufsen, both through the website www.bang-olufsen.com, and through e-mail and online advertising. Sounds like a lot, but unfortunately the responsability is not mine alone. I am part of a team of four others - incl. my boss - who do our best to push the boundaries of what can be done in eMarketing.

This is a new position. So I can actually shape my own job a bit. I see challenges, posibillities, hard work and potentially success. I'm all smiles!

Give it up for the cave men!

I was just reminded that the Royal Danish Coat of Arms is quite a funny example of heraldic.

Dig the cave men! I wonder why it was decided let a couple of half nude, bearded dudes hold the royal danish coat of arms. It gives a whole new meaning to the expression: "Going clubbing".

I am spending all my time getting installed in my new flat, where I am not even online yet. I'll catch up with you soon!

My New Home in Struer

Friday morning I'm off. Off to Struer in the NW of Denmark to start in a new job with Bang & Olufsen. Fortunately, I've already found myself a new lair - and this is it.

So there's a load of work ahead. I hate moving. I've already done it far too many times. All the packing, unpacking, painting, finding furniture, tweaking the look of the place and so on gets to me every time. I know some love it, but I am just not one of those. So you are welcome to pop by and give me a hand, if you like!

Photo No. 2
The "sea-view" from my "morning-balcony" - I have one facing west too!

Photo No. 3
A very empty living room. If it turns out well, I'll try to take an "update-photo", so you can get an idea of my style. :-)
